How to Renew Your CompTIA Server+ Certification (SK0-005)

The CompTIA Server+ certification is unique among IT credentials because it is designated as “Good for Life” (GFL). Unlike other certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+—which require renewal every three years—Server+ does not expire. Once you pass the Server+ exam, your certification remains valid for life. This means you do not need to complete continuing education (CE) credits or retake the exam to maintain your credential. It offers long-term value and stability, especially for IT professionals focused on server support and administration.

However, it’s worth noting that policies can change over time. For example, I personally passed the CompTIA Security+ certification in 2003, and at that time, it was also considered non-expiring. Later on, CompTIA revised their policy and Security+ became a certification that requires renewal every three years. I eventually retook the Security+ exam in 2024 to stay current with the latest standards. (I still have proof of my original and current certifications—if anyone would like to verify this, feel free to email me at csirt247@gmail.com, and I’ll be happy to share a photo of my certificates.)
